Custom Categories

Custom category menus are now supported on Workstations when they are logged-in to a Server using the Knight-Ridder datafeed or the Bonneville datafeed. Workstations accessing other feeds use a newer but generic category menu.

In some cases, a category may appear more than once in the category menu under different titles. The Knight Ridder menu, for example, lists "Platts (OPTP)" and "Optional P," both of which reference the same Knight Ridder-defined news category.

Custom categories may also be selected by entering the category description from the keyboard. Single-character category codes are also supported.

You can also select a category by entering the category's acronyms. For example, Bonneville news includes a category for stories from the "Cattlefax" service: the acronym, "CFX" will also select this category. Note that any keyboard text entry which exactly matches a category synonym or acronym will take priority over any partial-match the same text might make with longer category names or synonyms.

The following tables show all category titles and their associated single-character codes, synonyms, and acronyms. A single '-' indicates an empty field entry.
