Extending a Trend Line

Selecting Extend from the Trend Line Functions menu enables you to extend the selected trend line. To extend a trend line, you must select both the trend line you want to extend and the end-point you want to extend. The trend line is extended from the selected end-point.

A trend line can be extended in either direction. Extended trend lines continue indefinitely in the direction of the extension. The primary benefit of this type of line extension is that lines extended to the right are continually lengthened as new bars appear on your chart.

To extend a trend line with the keyboard, follow these steps:

1. Press u to select the trend line and end point you want to extend.

2. Press ` to display the Trend Line Functions menu.

3. Select Extend.

The trend line is extended from the selected end point. The old end point is marked by a cross hair (+). To remove the extension, see Truncating a Trend Line.

To extend a trend line with the mouse, follow these steps:

1. Click the right mouse key on the trend line end-point you want to extend.

2. Double-click the left mouse key.

The line is extended from the selected end-point. The point at which the line was extended is marked by a cross hair (+). To remove the extension, see Truncating a Trend Line.
