File Browse Windows

File browse windows are designed to provide you with information from your data vendor. File browse data is information that your vendor broadcasts in a format that a news window will not display. This information is typically quite diverse. You can get market summaries, the latest line from Las Vegas, and a variety of advisories (some of these services require subscriptions from your data vendor). The information available to you through the file browse window depends on the services provided by your data vendor. While the information you can get through a file browse window varies from vendor to vendor, the file browse window is easy to use. This module explains how to use the file browse window to display information provided by your data vendor.

In 2.27 series software, file browse windows are available only on standalone systems. In 3.0 series software, file browse windows are available on standalones and network workstations.

Information that appears in a file browse window is stored on your hard disk in the /APEX/xxDOWN directory (where xx is a two character mnemonic identifying your data vendor). For every element in the File Browse List menu, there is a corresponding file on your hard disk. These files are overwritten daily by new information. When new information comes into your computer, the old information is overwritten. Information that is broadcast in a non-compressed format is immediately available for display. Compressed information must be de-compressed before it becomes available for display.
