The Array's Symbol

In the example array (Figure 1), the first cell in the first row contains LONA. LONA defines the symbol.

You can use an array to update information on an existing symbol, or you can create a new symbol. If you update an existing symbol, the data in your array overwrites any existing data (as defined by date and time) sent by your data vendor and stored in your database. If you create a new symbol, make sure the symbol you use does not conflict with any Aspen Systems commands, or with other symbols.

Tip: To ensure a symbol you are creating does not conflict with a symbol in your database, display a chart window and enter the symbol you want to create. If the symbol you want to use does not conflict with existing symbols, you will see the <symbol> not defined message in the upper right corner of the chart window.

To ensure a symbol you are creating does not conflict with an Aspen Systems command or reserved word, please consult the list of commands in your Reference Guide.
