Rules for Valid Search Keywords

The following rules define the composition of valid search keywords:

1. Characters A - Z (upper- or lowercase) and 0 - 9 are allowed, and any of those characters may be first.

2. The period (.), ampersand (&), apostrophe ('), and hyphen (-) characters will be accepted as long as they do not lead the text fragment. (e.g., U.S., T-BONDS, Platts).

3. If the ampersand (&) is used as part of a search keyword, then the entire keyword must be enclosed in double-quotes, as in "S&P" ; otherwise, the & will be interpreted as an AND query operator in a complex search query.

4. A minimum of two significant characters are required. The exact-match suffix (!), described earlier, does not count as part of the search keyword. Therefore, TX or TX! is acceptable, but not T!. The period (.), apostrophe ('), and hyphen (-) characters also do not count as significant for this requirement.

5. Space characters are not allowed in keywords, even if the keyword is within quotation marks.
