Installing RAS Client in Windows NT 3.51

Before RAS will work on a Client computer, Dial-up Networking must be installed on the client.

Since RAS provides access to a TCP/IP Network, you must select and configure the TCP/IP protocol before you can access an AspeNet Server. Although the RAS Client may access a LAN as a client or as a server, you can access an AspeNet server only as a client.

A RAS computer’s role is determined when you specify how RAS-enabled ports will be used. Setting a port to Dial Out Only means the computer will be a RAS client only. Setting a port to Receive Calls Only means the computer will be a RAS server only. Setting a port to Dial Out And Receive Calls means the computer can be a client or a server.

Network LAN protocol settings apply to all RAS operations for all RAS-enabled ports, so setting RAS to use TCP/IP enables your client to communicate with an AspeNet server, even if you use the client as a server for other operations.

Installing RAS Client in NT 3.51 is a three-step process:

Step
Configure RAS Client to Use TCP/IP
Configure a Phone Book Entry
Connect to the RAS Server
