Aspen Graphics receives symbols from its data feeds and in most cases, displays the symbols unedited.

Sometimes, symbols transmitted by the data vendor conflict with a program command or a convention. In these cases, Aspen Graphics must alter the symbol.

This chapter explains the exceptions Aspen Graphics makes for each data vendor.

Aspen Graphics does NOT provide symbol guides for
each data vendor. Please call your data vendor to obtain a
copy of their specific symbol guide.

International Symbols and Cross Rates

Comstock divides international symbols into international groups. Within each international group are several exchanges or "market centers." These groups and the exchanges they contain are necessary elements in international instrument symbols. The Comstock Symbol Directory provides the exchange code and symbol. Table 5 provides the Group code that must precede the Comstock symbol.

NASDAQ Stock Options                                       Top of Page

NASDAQ stock options are entered in a manner similar to stocks except that the full symbol cannot be used. The rule for NASDAQ stocks is to use the first two letters of the stock symbol followed by the letter "Q". For example, the symbol for Microsoft is MSFT. The September 110 call for this symbol would be entered as:

msq_ib

Canadian Stocks

Canadian Stocks are transmitted with a dash (-) separating the symbol root from the source exchange. Substitute an apostrophe (‘) for the dash.

International Futures                                         Top of Page

To avoid conflicts with other Signal symbols, place an underscore (_) before international futures symbols.
