ASPEN GRAPHICS MENUS                              Top of Page

When the Aspen Graphics program is started, the Main Menu is displayed. The Main Menu contains selections that enable you to display market information.

Once you have displayed market information, application menus are used to fine-tune the information on the screen. Application menus are specific to the window with which you are working.

When the Aspen screen contains no windows or pages, pressing the btntilda.gif (1192 bytes) key, or holding down the right mouse button and clicking the left mouse button one time, will display the Main Menu.

If the Aspen screen contains one or more windows, an application menu will be displayed when the btntilda.gif (1192 bytes) key is pressed.

If the Aspen screen contains one or more windows and you want to display the Main Menu, use the btnshift.gif (1423 bytes) btntilda.gif (1192 bytes) keystroke.

The Main Menu contains several selections depending on which type of Aspen Graphics system you are using. Figure 1 is an example of the Main Menu on a network workstation.

On standalone systems and servers, the Main Menu is slightly different. Table 1 describes the selections you will find on the Main Menu.

Retrieve Page Displays the List of Pages.
Save Page Displays the "Save Page As:" prompt for saving pages.
Add Window Displays the Window Selection Menu.
Formulas Displays the Formula Listing menu.
Alarms Displays the Alarms menu.
Print Screen Prints the screen.
Data Retrieval (Servers and Standalones only) Displays the Data Retrieval menu.
Maintenance Displays the Maintenance menu.
AspeNet Access (Workstations only) Displays AspeNet Session Access information.
Exit Workstation Exits Aspen Graphics.

Application menus enable you to complete the unique tasks associated with each Aspen Graphics window. Based on the type of window you are using, Aspen Graphics knows the tasks appropriate for that window. When you press the btntilda.gif (1192 bytes) key, the application menu for the active window is displayed.

Moving Menus                          Top of Page

Menus are moved using the right mouse button. If an application menu is moved, it still applies only to the active window. To move a menu, follow these steps:

Position the mouse pointer inside the menu.

Click and HOLD the right mouse button.

Drag the menu to a favorable location on the screen.

Release the right mouse button.

An application menu will remain on the screen until you remove it by selecting Cancel or by tapping the btnesc.gif (1390 bytes) key one time.

Aspen Graphics features are accessed by using menus. You can select menu options by using the mouse or the keyboard.

To make a selection from a menu with the keyboard, press the up and down keys until your choice is highlighted. Tap the btnEnter.gif (1425 bytes) key one time.

 

To make a selection from a menu with the mouse, click once on the selection with the left mouse button.

To remove a menu from the screen without choosing a menu option, select Cancel or tap the btnesc.gif (1390 bytes) key one time.

Protected Selections                          Top of Page

Some menu selections are protected from accidental selection with the mouse. For example, on the Main Menu, Exit Program is a protected selection. Protected selections are displayed in red. To select a protected selection with the mouse, you must double click on it with the left mouse button.

When you are using the keyboard, be careful not to press enter when a protected
selection is highlighted unless you want to carry out that task.

Aspen Graphics for WindowsÒ is equipped with a menu bar (see Figure 2).

The menu bar contains the following selections:

Menu

Function

File Contains selections for retrieving and saving pages, printing, and exiting the program.
Edit Enables you to copy images and set preferences.
Text Enables you to change font styles and sizes.
Window Enables you to adjust video attributes and toggle the display of the menu bar.
DDE Enables you to create Dynamic Data Exchange links to spreadsheets.
Help Brings up the Aspen Graphics for WindowsÒ on-line help files.

Save Page Saves the page layout to the List of Pages.
Print Prints the current screen.

                             The Edit Menu (see Figure 4) contains the following selections:

Copy Displays the copy menu.
Copy Preferences Displays the Copy Preferences menu.
Options Allows you to choose between a regular or WindowsÒ style format.

The Edit Menu selections all have sub-menus (as indicated by the right arrow on each selection).

The Copy selection displays the copy sub-menu. The copy sub-menu allows you to copy Aspen windows for use in  spreadsheets and documents. The copy sub-menu contains the following selections:

Current Window Copies the active window to the clipboard.
Window Copies the window you select with the mouse pointer to the clipboard.
Select View Allows you to copy any area of the screen to the clipboard.
Page Copies all windows on the screen to the clipboard.

The Copy Preferences selection displays the Copy Preferences sub-menu. The selections in the preferences sub-menu govern how many colors an image contains when you copy a window or a view to the clipboard. The preferences sub-menu contains the following selections:

Full Color Copies sent to the clipboard will be in 256 color images.
Partial Color Copies sent to the clipboard will be in 2 color images.
Monochrome Copies sent to the clipboard will be in black & white.

Regular Changes the active window font to Regular font.
Bold Changes the active window font to Bold.
Italic Changes the active window font to Italic.
Larger Enlarges the active window’s font.
Smaller Reduces the active window’s font.
Fonts Displays the font selection menu.
Custom Font Allows editing of the active font.
Edit Fonts Allows editing of all fonts.

The Fonts selection displays the fonts sub-menu, which enable you to choose any of the pre-defined system fonts.
