Manual Installation from Netware Client Diskettes

1. Create a directory \NWCLIENT on your boot drive.

Note: The remaining instructions in this section assume your boot drive is drive C:.

2. Copy the NWUNPACK.EXE utility from Disk 1 (or the diskette you created from the VLMKT1 archive file) to a place where you can invoke it easily for the following steps, as in the following example:

C> COPY A:\NWUNPACK.EXE C:\NWCLIENT

3. From Disk 2 (or the diskette you created from the VLMKT2 archive file), decompress the file LSL.CO_ to the C:\NWCLIENT directory on your boot drive. Use the NWUNPACK utility in the manner shown below. If you will be using the IPX network protocol, also decompress the file IPXODI.CO_:

C> NWUNPACK A:\LSL.CO_ C:\NWCLIENT
C> NWUNPACK A:\IPXODI.CO_ C:\NWCLIENT

4. Check the \DOS directory of the “ODI LAN Drivers” Disk (or the diskette you created from the VLMKT5 archive file) for an ODI driver for your particular network adapter. If there is no driver supplied for your adapter, use the driver that came with the adapter or obtain the most recent version directly from the adapter manufacturer.

To use a driver from the client disk just mentioned, decompress the driver's executable file (a .CO_ or .EX_ file) to the
C:\NWCLIENT directory:

C> NWUNPACK A:\DOS\NE2000.CO_ C:\NWCLIENT

If you obtained your driver elsewhere, make sure it is copied to the C:\NWCLIENT directory.

5. Copy files.

images/net00090000.gif If you are using the purchased set of diskettes from Novell, copy the file TCPIP.EXE from the “TCP/IP Transport for DOS” disk to the C:\NWCLIENT directory. Also copy the files PING.EXE and PING.MSG as follows:

C> COPY A:\NET\BIN\TCPIP.EXE C:\NWCLIENT
C> COPY A:\NET\BIN\PING.EXE C:\NWCLIENT
C> COPY A:\NET\BIN\PING.MSG C:\NWCLIENT

images/net00090000.gif If you used the TCP16.EXE archive file to create a diskette, copy the files TCPIP.EXE, PING.EXE, and PING.MSG from the diskette to the C:\NWCLIENT directory as follows:

C> COPY A:\TCPIP.EXE C:\NWCLIENT
C> COPY A:\PING.EXE C:\NWCLIENT
C> COPY A:\PING.MSG C:\NWCLIENT

6. Complete your new installation by following the instructions in the section, Configuring 16-bit Transport Software for a New Installation .
