Configure RAS Client to Use TCP/IP

To configure the RAS Client to use the TCP/IP protocol, follow these steps:

1. In Control Panel, choose the Network option.

2. In the Network Settings dialog box, select Remote Access Service in the Installed Network Software box and choose the Configure button.

3. In the Remote Access Setup dialog box, choose the Network button.

4. In the Network Configuration dialog box, select the TCP/IP protocol in the Dial Out Protocols box.

The Dial Out Protocols box sets the protocols used when this computer dials out as a RAS client to another computer. If you do not select the TCP/IP protocol in the Dial Out Protocols box, you will be unable to select TCP/IP later, when you configure a phone book entry for dialing out.

If no ports are configured for dial out, The Dial Out Protocols box will be dimmed.

5. Select an encryption option.

Require Any Authentication Including Clear Text permits connection using any authentication requested by the client (MS-CHAP, MD5-CHAP, SPAP, PAP). This option is useful if you have different RAS clients. Require Encrypted Authentication permits connection using any authentication requested by the client except PAP. Require Microsoft Encrypted Authentication permits connection using MS-CHAP authentication only. Require Data Encryption means all data sent over the wire is encrypted.

6. When you are finished selecting protocols, choose the OK button. In the Remote Access Setup dialog box, choose the Continue button to exit Remote Access Setup.

7. You must restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Use the Network icon in Control Panel to configure or reconfigure the TCP/IP settings for RAS connections.
