Using Novell's LAN WorkPlace 5 for DOS/Windows

Normally, you would only take this approach if you have a licensed, single-user copy of the LAN WorkPlace 5 software or a multi-user/site-license version of the same software already available. If you need to obtain new software, the simplest and most economical approach is to obtain and use Novell's 16-bit NetWare Client for DOS/Windows, as described in the section, Acquiring Novell Networking Software If You Don't Already Have It .

The LAN WorkPlace 5 for DOS/Windows has a DOS-based installation program that will copy all the files you need onto your hard disk and attempt to configure your DOS system files to load the network software when your system is booted.

Unfortunately, it also requires large amount (approximately 10Mb) of disk space for files you do not need. Even more unfortunately, the DOS-based installation program has frequently failed to perform correctly when we have tried to use it.

Therefore, you will need to perform the Manual Installation instructions given below to install only the minimum set of needed software modules from the LAN WorkPlace 5 CD-ROM.
